Residents of all ages are invited to contribute to the design of a new mural coming to Sugar Land’s Imperial Historic District, officials announced in a July 7 news release.
What to expect
The mural—which will be created by Texan artist Tyler Kay—will be painted directly on a large concrete wall just south of the Imperial silos, per the release.
Community members can submit input via an online form where they can share:
"The strongest murals are created with a community, not just for a community," Kay said. "I'm excited to hear residents' stories and create a piece of art that feels like home."
Dates to know
The city will also host a special mural engagement activity during the Aug. 6 Party at the Plaza at Smart Financial Centre. Children will have the opportunity to inspire the mural by helping decorate six-foot letters at the event.
Once the design is finalized, the city will host a community paint-by-numbers event Sept. 3 for the community to participate in the project.

"As one of the first visible signs of the exciting transformation underway at Imperial, this mural is an opportunity to celebrate what makes Sugar Land special while building excitement for the future," Assistant Director of Redevelopment Jessica Huble said.
