Filing period begins for 3 Fort Bend ISD board seats

Fort Bend ISD residents have the opportunity to represent their community on the district’s board of trustees.

Up for election

The candidate filing period for Fort Bend ISD’s November election opened July 18 and runs through Aug. 17.

Candidates running for board positions are elected to serve three-year terms, according to the district’s website. These positions include:

FBISD board of trustees, Position 1

• Held by Angie Hanan
• Elected from the west portion of the district

FBISD board of trustees, Position 4

• Held by Shirley Rose-Gilliam
• At-large position elected from any portion of the district

FBISD board of trustees, Position 5

• Held by Addie Heyliger
• Elected from the east portion of the district

Although FBISD candidates who file to run must reside on the side of the district the position requires, all voters can weigh in on all candidates, and candidates serve all district residents, according to the FBISD website.

Looking ahead

The election will take place Nov. 3 with early voting running from Oct. 19-30, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website. Residents must register to vote by Oct. 5.
