Dates to know
The 2026-27 calendar runs from Aug. 11, 2026 to May 27, 2027 and adds an extra day of instruction to the school year, Community Impact previously reported.
Key dates for the 2026-27 calendar include:
There will be additional days off for Labor Day on Sept. 7, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Jan. 18, President’s Day on Feb. 15 and Good Friday on March 26, per the calendar. Students will also have off days on Sept. 25, Oct. 9, Jan. 4-5, Feb. 12 and March 5.
What’s new?
The district closed seven elementary schools ahead of the 2026-27 school year after a March 9 vote, including:
The closures are intended to even out utilization across schools after several years of low enrollment, Community Impact previously reported.
Secondary boundary reviews are underway with plans for approval this fall with no plans to close any additional campuses, officials previously said.
A virtual high school program will also begin this school year after the district entered into a $4.2 million agreement with educational software company Edmentum.
Additionally, Burton Elementary received a new bilingual pre-K3 classroom, a program for 3-year-old students supported by local nonprofit BakerRipley.
What’s changing?
In June, the district approved a budget for the coming school year with a $32.8 million shortfall. The budget includes improvements to teacher compensation, multiple new language programs, and the pre-K3 and virtual high school programs.
FBISD also narrowly approved a lease agreement to construct four cell towers on district property. The towers will join an additional 20 that have either been constructed, are under construction or have already been approved by the district.

Transportation
The district offers transportation for students living 2 or more miles from their school, according to the student/parent handbook. Information about the bus routes can be found on the locator webpage or app.
Nutrition
There have been no changes to meal prices for students, Community Impact previously reported. Students on both the free and reduced meal plans will not pay for meals. Applications for free and reduced meals are available on SchoolCafe.
