Fort Bend ISD will expand its Pre-K3 program with an additional bilingual classroom to serve Burton Elementary students in the 2026-27 school year.
What parents need to know
At an April 20 meeting, the Fort Bend ISD board of trustees approved a memorandum of understanding with local nonprofit BakerRipley to continue services and add a classroom for the district’s Pre-K3 program.
The program was initially approved by trustees in March 2025 and launched 11 Pre-K3 classrooms during the 2025-26 school year at six campuses, Community Impact reported.
About the program
The program aims to widen early childhood education, give younger children improved academic conditions, and attract and retain families to the district, according to agenda documents.
Head Start programs are free, federally-funded programs designed to provide academic preparation for preschoolers from eligible families, according to the BakerRipley website.
The program, which is only available to students in select feeder patterns, runs Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m., and all school supplies and meals, including breakfast, lunch and snacks, are provided, Community Impact previously reported.
According to the district website, students must meet eligibility requirements in order to enroll in the Pre-K3 program:
Children also qualify if they are Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or Temporary Assistance for Families recipients, are homeless, or have current or previous conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, per the district’s website.
The cost
BakerRipley invested over $1.3 million to fund co-teachers, support staff, supplies and materials during the 2025-2026 school year, per agenda documents. Meanwhile, FBISD’s contributions included financing certified teachers and classroom technology.
Community Impact reached out to determine Fort Bend ISD’s cost, but the information was not returned by press time.
Next steps
The new Pre-K3 classroom will begin in August, alongside the existing classrooms, which will continue programming, per agenda documents.
