Monday: Schools and city business
Fort Bend ISD’s board of trustees makes the next stop of its “listening tour” at Hightower High School in Missouri City. Community members are invited to provide suggestions and ask trustees and district staff questions about topics such as classroom technology and curriculum. Afterward, trustees will hold a discussion of their agenda for the following week’s regular board meeting on Feb. 13. The listening roundtables begin at 5 p.m. and the board meeting is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Hightower HS is located at 3333 Hurricane Lane. Missouri City City Council will hold its first February City Council meeting Monday at 7 p.m. at City Hall. The regular meeting will be preceded by a special agenda meeting at 6 p.m. in the conference room behind the council chamber. During the special meeting, council members are expected to discuss an annexation request from municipal utility district No. 48. The land in question is a portion of the Rocky Lai tract and lies between the Fort Bend Parkway Toll Road and MUD No. 48’s boundaries. Developer Olympia Estates is hoping to buy and develop the property, pending its annexation by MUD No. 48, according to city documents.
Tuesday: Sugar Land City Council meets
The council will hold their first meeting of the month. Tentative agenda items include proposals to restrict drivers’ use of phone and mobile devices within city limits, and whether the city should contribute money to the building costs of a Texas State Technical College project. The meeting will begin 5:30 p.m. at Sugar Land City Hall, 2700 Town Center Blvd. N.
Wednesday: District of innovation plan moving forward
FBISD’s Academic Advisory Council will review plans for the school district to become a “district of innovation.” The plan will outline the state education rules from which FBISD would be exempt if approved by the board of trustees. Read about the plan’s expected scope here.
