George Strait to close 2022 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with concert March 20

George Strait will perform at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's 90th anniversary celebration next year, according to a May 18 press release.

Strait will perform in concert on the final night of the 2022 rodeo, which is scheduled to run from Feb. 28-March 20.

“What better way to celebrate the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s 90th anniversary than with a special, concert-only performance by the ‘King of Country’ music himself,” Rodeo President and CEO Chris Boleman said in the release. “After a couple of particularly challenging years, our thousands of dedicated volunteers simply can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the rodeo grounds for a Texas-sized celebration of Western heritage that will be well worth the wait.”

Tickets for Strait's performance will go on sale June 24. Strait is the first performer announced ahead of the 2022 event.

According to the release, Strait's concert at NRG Stadium will not be preceded by other rodeo events; however, all other activities on the grounds will be open.

Strait's 2022 appearance will be his 31st time to perform at the Houston Rodeo since 1983. In 2019, his show with Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen set a record attendance at NRG Stadium with 80,108 fans, the release says.
