The Montgomery County Commissioners Court, acting also as the Montgomery County Toll Road Authority, approved an agreement with Harris County regarding
Phase 2 of the Tomball Tollway—the tolled stretch of Hwy. 249 in Tomball—during a November meeting. Phase 2 of the project will extend the toll road 1.5 miles north of FM 2920 to the Harris County line, adding a bridge over Spring Creek—which doubles as the county line between Harris and Montgomery counties.
The agreement allows Harris County workers to cross the county line during construction of the Spring Creek bridge. Montgomery County will be responsible for construction of a few ramps and reimburse $1.2 million to Harris County for work done on the project.
Additionally, Tomball City Council approved Harris County’s offer in December to purchase a portion of the city of Tomball’s existing utility easements, located east of Hwy. 249 south of Brown Road, needed for Phase 2. The toll road authorities expect to open the roughly 24-mile stretch in late 2018 or early 2019, which will provide a new, tolled route through Magnolia to Hwy. 105 in Navasota.
