Voters approve Klein Fire Department tax rate cap increase

Why it matters

The measure was originally proposed in 2025, where it narrowly failed to gain voter approval. As Community Impact previously reported, the new tax cap will allow the district to ensure it can affording growing expenses related to operations.

“This election placed the future of emergency services in the hands of the Klein community,” Fire Chief Jason Catrambone said. “Klein Fire Department can continue meeting the community’s expectations for timely, professional, and well‑equipped emergency response.”

Approval of the proposition does not automatically increase the district's property tax rate, and any changes must still go through the HCESD 16 board of directors.

"This measure is not about immediate change. It is about long-term planning and making sure we can responsibly meet the needs of a growing community over time. Fire service delivery continues to evolve; costs continue to rise, and expectations for service remain high," Wilson said in the letter to the community. "This gives us the ability to plan ahead rather than fall behind.'
