Multiple projects funded by Spring ISD’s $850 million bond, which was approved by voters in November 2022, have recently made headway, including $33.1 million in work slated for the district’s Education, Performance and Instructional Center.
Two-minute impact
On March 25 and April 8, SISD’s board of trustees approved two packages—for $17 million and $16.1 million, respectively—for the EPIC. The packages will cover early construction, such as steel and concrete work as well as plumbing, Chief of District Operations Mark Miranda said during an April 1 trustee meeting.
SISD leaders are supposed to meet by the end of April to determine a groundbreaking date for EPIC, Miranda said. Construction was previously estimated to begin in May.
About the project
As previously reported by Community Impact, the center will include features such as:
- A 4,000-seat indoor arena—with an optional 1,000 additional on-court seats—to host athletic events or ceremonies such as graduation
- A 1,000-seat performance hall
- A 49,500-square-foot detached multipurpose pavilion to host livestock shows, robotics events and band practices
- An art gallery to display student works
- A 250-seat academic and recital hall to host University Interscholastic League competitions
Work on EPIC is funded by Proposition B—which allots $141 million total for the project—of SISD’s 2022 bond. Details of the building’s interior were unveiled Sept. 5, as previously reported by Community Impact.
