With construction expected to begin in May on Spring ISD’s planned $141 million event center—funded by the district’s 2022 bond—details of the building’s interior were unveiled Sept. 5.

The specifics

The 148,000-square-foot center was approved by voters in November 2022 under Proposition B of SISD’s $850 million bond.

During a Sept. 5 SISD board of trustees meeting, new renderings for the Education, Performance and Instruction Center—or EPIC—were presented. According to the presentation, features of the project include:
  • A 4,000-seat indoor arena—with an optional 1,000 additional seats in on-court seating—to host athletic events or ceremonies such as graduation
  • A 1,000-seat performance hall
  • A 49,500-square-foot detached multipurpose pavilion to host livestock shows, robotics events and band practices
  • An art gallery to display student works
  • A 250-seat academic and recital hall to host University Interscholastic League competitions
  • A kitchen and concessions space to host culinary arts students and provide event catering support
  • A lobby with dual staircases to host choir recitals
  • A multipurpose room to host teaching or conferences
  • Offices, locker rooms, a mother’s room and storage rooms
EPIC will have two floors and was designed by HKS Architecture. The building will lie south of the Randall Reed Center at Planet Ford Stadium, which is located at 23802 Cypresswood Drive, Spring.
