Klein ISD plans to maintain current property tax rate

The board of trustees held a public hearing at the meeting regarding the FY 2026-27 budget, but received no public participation.

The projections

The adopted FY 2026-27 budget was based on an estimated tax rate of $1.0119 per $100 of property value, which is the same rate as FY 2025-26. However, the actual proposed tax rate will be determined in September or October once the district receives verified property values from HCAD, meeting documents show.

Schaefer presented the FY 2026-27 budget to the board of trustees at the April 20 budget workshop and provided an update at the May 11 regular meeting.

Schaefer said school districts continue to face financial challenges regarding:

• Increase in inflation
• Underfunded safety requirements mandated by the state

KISD’s FY 2025-26 and 2026-27 are projected to be balanced over the two-year period, Schaefer said. This is attributed to:

• Updated state property value estimates
• Increased revenue from favorable state recalculations

The KISD board of trustees is slated to meet July 13 at 6 p.m. in the Frank A. Lemmon Administration Building.
