The former Greenspoint Mall site is set to be redeveloped, investment companies Lincoln and New York Life announced in a press release Sept. 22.
Per previous Community Impact reporting, Greenspoint Mall closed in 2024.
What’s happening?
The 80-acre site is slated to become CityNorth Industrial Park, which will house cross-dock and rear-load industrial buildings, along with retail and service uses. The 1.2 million-square-foot development is estimated to accommodate 1,200 full-time jobs upon completion, according to the release. Demolition on the site is expected to begin in October.
In a statement, Houston Mayor John Whitmire said he has witnessed the “proud days of Greenspoint Mall and the unfortunate neglect the mall and the Greenspoint community have suffered for too long.”
“This redevelopment will create new jobs, attract businesses and improve the quality of life in Greenspoint,” Whitmire said. “Combined with the upcoming Houston Police North Belt Station and the Fire Department’s Station 84, the CityNorth Industrial Park is one more example that Houston is going in the right direction.”
The details
Lincoln and New York Life announced their partnership and acquisition of the property, which will serve Greater Houston’s “growing logistics and industrial demand,” according to the release.
Lincoln Executive Vice President Gabe Lerner said the site’s scale will allow it to accommodate a range of users.
“CityNorth will serve large logistics and distribution operations as well as smaller companies seeking a strategic North Houston location,” Lerner said.
The first phase of construction is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2028, per the release.
