Early construction began Jan. 30 on a remodel of the Spring Fire Department’s Station 72, according to an April 8 email from Communications Director Tracee Evans. The $6.6 million project includes tearing down the old station—which was completed in late December through Jan. 10—and building a new almost 12,000-square-foot station from scratch, according to a post about the station on the SFD’s website.
According to the SFD’s post, the new Station 72 will be almost double the size of the existing station and will feature:
- Room for a new ambulance and crew from Harris County Emergency Services District No. 11
- Community space for safety training classes and events
- Eight firefighter dorm rooms and living space
- A training space and a small gym
- Offices
- A kitchen
“The current station was built a couple of decades ago for a volunteer fire department, and while renovated to house full-time firefighters, it does not meet the aesthetic of the community or its needs any longer,” the post reads.
