Her addition brings critical care services that can mean the difference between life and death for pets in crisis, giving families options and hope when they feel helpless.
What critical care means for pets
Critical care gives seriously ill or injured pets a chance to survive when every moment counts. Unlike standard emergency care, which addresses immediate injuries or sudden illness, critical care focuses on intensive, ongoing monitoring and treatment for pets with life-threatening conditions.
“Critical care lets us step in when pets are vulnerable,” Dr. Young said. “Families don’t have to travel hours to a university hospital for advanced care. We now offer it in North Dallas at NDVESH.”

New services available:
- Advanced organ support, including oxygen and ventilators
- Dialysis for kidney failure or toxin exposure
- Emergency blood transfusions
- Specialized monitoring, such as arterial blood gas analysis
- Treatment for severe seizures and respiratory crises
- Care for trauma, toxicities and shock
- Postoperative monitoring for critically ill patients

Meet Dr. Young
Dr. Young is a board-certified veterinary criticalist with extensive training beyond that of most emergency or general-practice veterinarians.
She completed a rigorous three-year critical care residency, earning her board certification. Dr. Young has pursued specialized training in nephrology and urology, including a dialysis-focused fellowship, and is completing a two-year residency in these specialties.
Her background includes treating various species and conditions, from common pets to unusual cases in academic settings, giving her a broad perspective on critical and specialized veterinary care.
“I’ve cared for pets in serious, life-threatening situations,” Dr. Young said. “Families can feel confident knowing their pets are in experienced hands, and we have the training and tools for the best chance at recovery.”

A lifeline for the North Dallas community
The addition of critical care at NDVESH is a lifeline for North Dallas pet owners. Before Dr. Young joined, families traveled far for specialized care. Now, advanced treatments are available close to home, reducing stress for pets and their owners.
“Providing these services locally makes a huge difference,” Dr. Young said. “In a pet crisis, every minute counts. Families don’t have to worry about long drives; they can get expert treatment immediately.”
Local clinics benefit from a nearby partner for complex cases needing intensive monitoring or specialized care.
“Critical care isn’t just about treatment; it’s about giving families confidence that their pets have the best chance to recover,” Dr. Young said.
