The Adventure Begins Comics, Games and More—along with its upstairs counterpart, The Adventure Stadium—is not just a retail destination. It’s a gathering place where passions are shared, friendships are formed and everyone is welcome.
Founded in 2019 by Bill Sheely, The Adventure Begins was originally meant to be a retirement project, but the store quickly outgrew its humble beginnings.
“What started as a small passion project has turned into something so much bigger than any of us imagined,” general manager Kolton Coats said. “It’s become a welcoming space where collectors, gamers and fans can come together and just be themselves.”
In 2021, the shop expanded with a dedicated sports card and memorabilia space upstairs, and in 2025, the team took things further with a broadened online presence.
Despite the expansion, the shop’s mission has always remained rooted in inclusivity and community.
“Our goal has always been to stay community-focused—creating a space where everyone has an equal opportunity to access high-demand products, enjoy a safe place to game and hang out,” Coats said. “Even if someone isn’t here to spend money, they’re welcome to be around friends or like-minded individuals and feel like they belong.”
The store’s offerings are as varied as its customers.

A special kids’ section, 3D printing and maker services, and a wide selection of sports memorabilia upstairs at The Adventure Stadium round out the experience.
While The Adventure Begins is first and foremost a retail destination, its vibrant event calendar adds an extra layer of connection.
With more than 80 to 120 events each month, there’s always something happening to support and celebrate the hobbies the store sells, including:
- Weekly trading card meetups
- Miniature hobby nights
- Monthly ladies’ game nights
- Stadium trade nights
- Game nights
In addition to in-store gatherings, The Adventure Begins regularly shows up in the community, participating in off-site events such as the Conroe and Katy Card Shows.
“They’re family-friendly, free to attend and a great way to meet vendors and other collectors,” Coats said.
