Skyline Dental in Houston is redefining dental visits by adding something unexpected: professional skin care. With licensed esthetician Priscilla Dayton now part of the team, patients can care for their smiles and skin all under one roof.

From facials to microneedling to specialized massages, these services are already making a difference, especially for patients seeking relief from jaw pain or hoping to boost their confidence.

How does TMJ care tie in with esthetic services?

One of the most unique offerings at Skyline Dental is massage therapy for patients dealing with temporomandibular joint issues: a condition that causes discomfort, tightness or pain in the jaw due to clenching, grinding or misalignment.

“We do a lot of TMJ massages. TMJ is a facial disorder, so it’s something [those patients] have to continually work on,” Dayton said. “What I learned in school is that certain massages done at the joint of the area where there are [muscle] knots helps relieve them.”

To further reduce pain and muscle tension, Botox is also an option for some patients.

“[Injecting] Botox from the temporal area all the way down to the jawline helps relieve discomfort, because it helps relax the muscles,” Dayton said.

Together, massages and Botox offer a low-cost, noninvasive alternative to traditional medical care, and they can sometimes prevent the need for expensive specialists.

“I used to send a lot of patients out for TMJ issues because it's a very difficult area [to treat] in the dental [industry],” owner Dr. Stefanie Sunnes said. “It's very expensive to go see a [TMJ] doctor, so I prefer to send [patients] to Priscilla first. [With her], they can do a low-cost, very minimally invasive procedure, and then go from there.”

What other skin care treatments are available?

Beyond massage therapy, Dayton offers a wide range of esthetic services designed to help skin look and feel its best, including facials, peels, lash extensions and microneedling.

“Microneedling helps by creating micro injuries to the skin. This helps produce more collagen and promote skin-cell activity. That helps shed a lot of dry skin off, as well as smooth out any scars and wrinkles” Dayton said.

Can patients schedule these services with their regular dental visit?

Yes, and that convenience is part of what makes this new offering so popular.

“Once [the dental visit] is done, patients can hop into Priscilla’s chair to get their TMJ massage or their facial the same day. That way, they’re not going [to several] offices,” Dr. Sunnes said.

How does Skyline Dental help patients feel comfortable trying something new?

Whether it’s their first time in a dental chair or first-ever facial, patients are welcomed with warmth and care that make every visit relaxing.

“The whole office makes everyone feel at ease walking in. It's a very welcoming atmosphere,” Dayton said.

What’s next for esthetic services at Skyline Dental?

With the new offerings still growing, the team is excited about what’s ahead: helping more patients discover the confidence that comes with great dental and skin care combined.

“When you see someone smile, you feel better. I know [our services] help people's confidence,” Dayton said.
