Remember the days of cramped, chaotic indoor playgrounds with limited options for parents? Michael Fontaine certainly does. A decade ago, driven by his own experiences as a remote-working dad, he envisioned a different kind of family space – one that prioritized both children's play and parents' comfort. That vision became Mt. Playmore, now celebrating its 11th anniversary as Austin’s largest and most family-friendly indoor playground.

Spanning an incredible 32,000 square feet, this locally-owned facility has redefined indoor play in Texas.

"He wanted a place that would just be for families with little kids where you could feel comfortable," Director of Operations Deirdre Frazier-Hunt said.

What makes Mt. Playmore unique?

Unlike heavily themed play areas, Mt. Playmore's playscape is designed for children ages 2 to 10 to encourage open-ended, imaginative play.

"The more you theme something, the less a child uses their imagination," Frazier-Hunt said.

This approach fosters creativity and keeps kids engaged without limiting their adventures. Beyond the main playscape, guests will find a spacious arcade featuring the latest games, including VR Rabbids, Lane Master, and Raccoon Rampage, alongside beloved classics like Skee-Ball and air hockey.

Prioritizing safety & parent comfort

Mt. Playmore was built with safety at its core. You won't find high-risk elements like trampolines or ball pits, often discouraged by pediatricians. The facility also enforces strict entry and exits policies: every child and adult receive a unique matching stamp upon entry, ensuring no one leaves unmatched. Adults must always be accompanied by a child, and any incoming guests must be verified by their party already inside.

Fontaine's original vision also addressed parent comfort. Mt. Playmore's layout boasts wide sightlines, ample adult seating, and free Wi-Fi, making it easy for parents to supervise or even work.

The experience is further elevated by the kitchen, which serves freshly prepared, made-to-order meals – a refreshing change from the typical concession stand options. The adults can even enjoy beer, wine and mimosas.
