A boutique experience
Moxie Scooters isn't your typical big-box store. With a personal, hands-on approach, customers are treated as individuals, ensuring they find the ideal scooter to match their lifestyle.
“We look forward to finding out what's going to fit the bill,” owner John Raimondi said. “[We ask] what [customers] need their scooter to do for them. Is it for pleasure, running to the store, or are they going to commute 10 miles a day to work? We fit the scooter to their needs.”
Scooter riding 101
For those new to scooter riding, Moxie Scooters goes the extra mile to ensure customer comfort and safety.
“If the customer feels unsafe on [their scooter], we'll take them outside,” associate Axel Cerbantes said. “We have a trainer bike we put them on, and we teach them how to start, stop and turn—just the basics to get them going. That way, they can go home and practice in their neighborhood.”

One-stop shop
The shop offers seven name-brand scooters, including the following:
- Vespa
- Piaggio
- Genuine Scooter
- Lance
- ScootStar
- NIU
- SYM Scooters
In addition to scooters, they offer a wide range of accessories, such as:
- Helmets
- Gloves
- Goggles
- Jackets
- Baskets

Scooter vs. motorcycle
Many people don’t understand the difference between a scooter and a motorcycle. According to Moxie Scooters, there are three major traits that separate the two:
- A scooter has a flat floorboard where people can slide their leg across, unlike a motorcycle where they have to lift their leg over the seat.
- Scooters are automatic, with a twist-and-go throttle, while motorcycles require shifting gears with a clutch and foot pedal.
- Scooters have a storage bin under the seat, providing convenient space for a purse, helmet or groceries.
“Maxi scooters are highway capable. We sometimes get customers who have a larger motorcycle, and they’ve gotten to the age where they can't throw their leg over the seat or the bike is too heavy,” Raimondi said. “We provide them with an alternative so they can keep riding.”
The weight difference between a larger motorcycle and a maxi scooter can be up to 500 pounds.
Service and maintenance
The store sets itself apart with its emphasis on service and maintenance for all scooters it sells. Their trained technicians can handle everything from oil changes, which are completed within the day, to more complex repairs, which have an average turnaround time of just a week-and-a-half.
“We get calls where a person will say, ‘I live in Dallas, but I'd rather come to you because you guys can get it done in a week-and-a-half versus a month-and-a-half wait,’” Raimondi said.
Moxie Scooters also provides guidance on preseason checkups and winterizing to keep scooters in top condition year-round.
They recommend that riders check their battery, tire pressure and oil level before hitting the road after winter. During winter, they advise people to start the scooter once a week.
