At Austin FCU, members are served by a close-knit team, all located at their one branch, which allows them to provide top-tier service. Many staff members have spent years with the institution, offering a level of expertise and consistency that’s rare in today’s fast-paced financial world.
The leadership reflects that same commitment. President Mindy Bayer started at Austin FCU as a teller 19 years ago.
“When I'm interacting with people, I always find [my experience] to be a really valuable place to have come from,” Bayer said. “If [members] ask me questions about the way something happened further back, I have context for it.”
The company is also deeply committed to providing tailored solutions while getting to know their members.
“[When people call us], they can talk to a real person,” Bayer said. “It's not a call center, and it's not something that we've outsourced somewhere else.”
This hands-on approach is a hallmark of Austin FCU’s service philosophy.

Embracing technology to better serve members
In a competitive banking environment, Austin FCU has leaned into technology to meet member needs. Members can now apply for accounts and sign loan documents entirely online, offering flexibility without sacrificing the human connection.
The company is also preparing to roll out Apple Pay and Google Wallet capabilities, further enhancing digital convenience for members.
Keeping loan rates low and competitive
While many larger financial institutions have raised interest rates, Austin FCU remains focused on maintaining low loan rates for its members, staying true to its mission of offering affordable, accessible financial solutions.
Investing in financial literacy and youth education
Austin FCU believes that building strong financial habits starts early. The credit union has ramped up efforts to engage young members and their families through youth account promotions and educational initiatives.
“We've been trying to get parents to bring their kids in so we can start teaching them about what it means to save,” Bayer said. “Over time, we’ll hopefully get to a point where we're teaching them about credit too. That's something that I think is really valuable and is lacking [in our community].”
Clarity during times of financial hardship
In addition to education, Austin FCU supports members facing financial hardships by offering transparent options like payment deferrals and reduced payments.
“A lot of people, when they feel like they're behind on their bills, want to stick their head in the sand,” Bayer said. “We can offer payment deferrals and reduce payments. It’s really important to me to be very transparent about that.”

Vacation loans
Every year, Austin FCU offers vacation loans, allowing members to relax without financial worries.
“[Vacation loans] are basically personal loans with a 12-month term and a much lower rate,” Bayer said. “We have a lot of members who count on it. This is what they do every summer.”
Summer youth events: Fun, learning and community spirit
Austin FCU is excited to host a series of family-friendly summer events designed to combine creativity and financial education.

- Friendship Bracelets: July 15, 1-4 p.m.
