Since opening in June, Great American Cookies in Kingwood has quickly become a community favorite, known for its delicious cookies, custom cakes and personalized service. In less than a year, the shop, located at 2021 Northpark Drive, has earned a reputation for adding sweetness to every celebration.

Great American Cookies isn’t just about cookies. It’s an experience, thanks in part to Assistant Manager and Head Decorator Amy Thomas. Her passion for baking is evident in the custom cookie cakes she designs with care and creativity.

“If you can dream it, I can design it for you,” Thomas said.

Thomas’ journey to Great American Cookie

Thomas’ journey into the world of baking is rooted in her childhood memories of baking every weekend with her grandmother.

Although Thomas initially pursued a degree in world history at Rutgers University, her passion for food led her to the International Culinary Center in Manhattan, New York where she refined her skills. But her love for travel kept her grounded as a flight attendant for Continental/United Airlines, where she worked for nearly two decades while continuing to bake on the side.

“When I first started baking, it was all about making something that would bring people together,” Thomas said. “Over the years, I realized how much I enjoyed the joy my creations brought to others.”

When the airline industry was impacted by COVID-19, Thomas decided it was time for a change. She started selling her baked goods at farmers’ markets and soon realized how much she missed interacting with customers. That’s when she learned about Great American Cookies opening in Kingwood. After reaching out to owner Jeremy Roy, Thomas was hired, beginning her journey at the store.

Whether it’s a wedding, birthday, gender reveal, corporate event or any other special occasion, Thomas and her team can create the perfect cookie cake. They can also make cakes for those who simply want to enjoy a delicious treat just because.
