John Wesley Christian School, located at 5830 Bermuda Dunes Drive, Houston, is cultivating bright minds while fostering a community where kindness and well-rounded development take center stage. The school’s mission begins with educating all students in a Christ-centered and nurturing environment, which will equip them for life-long academic excellence and Christian leadership.

From its tender beginnings with 6 month olds to its growing elementary program—now serving up to second grade and set to expand to third in 2025—this school is making a name for itself with a refreshing approach to education.

“We're a play-based school, so everything is very hands on,” Director Kim Hall said. “The students go to chapel weekly, and we incorporate the lessons learned in the sanctuary into the classroom as well. The idea is to create the whole student, not just the academic side and not just the play side.”

Small class sizes and a caring environment form the cornerstone of the school's educational approach. Recognizing each child as a unique individual, they prioritize maintaining low student-to-staff ratios while providing an engaging atmosphere.

The school's vibrant culture is supported by engaged parents and a passionate, experienced team. Staff longevity reflects a strong sense of purpose and community.

“We have a staff of about 42, and about 12 of them have been teaching here for 10 years or more,” Hall said. “They want to stay because they enjoy their jobs and the kids. It really is a ministry to them.”

The school emphasizes the importance of qualified educators, especially as students advance in their academic journeys. Since the elementary school’s opening in 2021, there has been a focus on ensuring that elementary teachers hold teaching certifications to effectively deliver a more rigorous curriculum.

Beyond the classroom, the school offers enrichment activities such as dance and tumbling, adding a dash of extracurricular fun to the mix. For children 2 years and older, the school provides an additional two hours of child care, from 2-4 p.m., offering a helping hand to busy parents.

Building strong community ties

The community at John Wesley Christian School is full of satisfied families.

“The people here are very happy,” Hall said. “They appreciate the smaller classes. They’re extremely comfortable with the staff. They trust us, and they know this is a quality program.”

Looking forward, Hall has her sights set on deepening the school’s connection with the surrounding neighborhood.

“Our goal is to try to connect with our neighborhood, although many of our families travel to reach us,” she said.

John Wesley Christian School offers more than education—it offers a community where every child is seen, supported and inspired. With small classes, caring teachers and a faith-driven mission, it’s a place where learning and character development go hand in hand.
