Alta Trails Apartments, a new housing development in Bastrop, is generating excitement with its promise to blend small town charm with modern living. Developed by Wood Partners, Alta Trails broke ground in April 2023, amidst Austin's booming growth.

According to Travis Russell, Vice President of Development at Wood Partners, the attraction to Bastrop was its location, offering residents the tranquility of a smaller community with convenient access to job opportunities in Austin.

Addressing Bastrop’s housing needs

“Bastrop doesn't have a ton of new multifamily apartments available for rent, so we really liked being able to deliver a new housing option for the residents of Bastrop,” Russell said.

This development not only provides more housing options, but also aims to reflect Bastrop's overall feel by providing luxury apartments with plenty of natural light, stainless steel appliances and designer subway tile backsplashes.

Elevated living through community amenities

The community enhances residents' lifestyles with a variety of amenities. These include a 24-hour fitness center, a resort-style pool, micro offices for rent, wireless printing and even a coffee bar in the leasing office.

“[Our coffee bar] has a variety of different beans and creamers that the residents can choose from,” community manager Kris Munson said. “They can come and go as they please. They can grab a cup of coffee before they head out to work without having to worry about that at home. A lot of residents take advantage of it throughout their day.”

Brenda Holden, regional property manager for Greystar, highlighted some other practical amenities such as electric vehicle chargers, a dog park with a dog wash station, garages, carports and reserved parking. Furthermore, residents will soon enjoy greater access to shopping at Pearl River Center, opening in 2026.

“Being right next door to retail shops in a suburban location is unique,” Russell said. “We're very excited about being able to offer that in the next year or so.”

A warm welcome from Bastrop

The response from the Bastrop community has been overwhelmingly positive.

“We had our ribbon cutting event at the end of February. There were about 70 to 80 people here that day. I’m amazed at how much the community has supported us,” Munson said. “Everybody that I spoke to at the ribbon cutting event said, ‘We couldn't wait until you had your grand opening so we could see the complex.’ Everybody has been so welcoming, so kind and so generous. It's been amazing!”

Holden emphasized the welcoming nature of the town.

“It's truly a small town feel,” she said. “Everybody works together and supports each other.”

Looking to the future

Looking ahead, the development of Alta Trails is part of a larger vision to activate Bastrop's west side.

“Long term, this is going to be an integrated, mixed-use development,” Russell said. “It's something the city is behind and something the residents of Bastrop are behind. It's really exciting to be part of that.”
