Crush Taco founder and former restaurant executive of Smashburger partner up

After nearly a decade of building a loyal following in Frisco, Crush Taco is entering an exciting new chapter. Founder Mo Assi has returned to the forefront of the business, bringing fresh energy, bold culinary ideas and a new partnership with Alex Batio, a former restaurant executive with national brands like Smashburger and Blaze Pizza.

Crush Taco has long been known for fusing fine-dining culinary techniques with the approachability of a fast-casual taco shop. What sets the concept apart, Assi explained, is the level of care that goes into each menu item.

“We're slicing our own vegetables, and we're making our own sauces,” Assi said. “We don't just serve chicken. We serve house-marinated grilled chicken. We're doing all the right things to make sure that the final taco that you get is quality.”

Menu highlights include:
  • Cornflake Crusted Shrimp Taco: house-marinated battered shrimp, dynamite sauce, house shred and green onion.
  • Fried Chicken Elote Taco: buttermilk fried chicken, corn, crema, Tajin, cotija cheese and cilantro.
  • Chopped Smokehouse Brisket Taco: smoked brisket, avocado slice, salsa verde, grilled onions, Monterey Jack cheese, pickled jalapeno and cilantro.
  • Caramelized Cauliflower Taco: cauliflower, spicy pepitas, Greek yogurt, grilled onions, charred lemon.
The same level of care that goes into the restaurant's tacos can be found on the drink menu. Crush Taco’s frozen margaritas are made with real tequila and triple sec and come in several flavors, like Sangria Swirl, Chili Mango, Prickly Pear and Strawberry.

With two locations already thriving—one on Dallas Parkway and another on Stonebrook—the Crush Taco team is actively exploring options for a third location. This renewed energy stems in part from Assi’s alignment with Batio, who brings deep operational experience and a shared vision for expansion.

“I've known Alex for several years, and he has worked for some big nationwide companies,” Assi said. “We're actively looking into a third location, and our plan is to continue to grow, so I wanted to align myself with the like-minded restaurateurs who see my vision of growth. Team members are energized with the training that we've put in place, and things are looking really great for Crush Taco.”

Batio said he has been a fan of Crush Taco since 2018 and when the opportunity came to team up with Chef Mo to help grow the brand, he was genuinely excited.

“As we work to fine-tune our operations and set Crush Taco up for growth, we're definitely keeping what makes Crush Taco special while making some smart changes to ensure even smoother operations,” Batio said.

Crush Taco isn’t just about great food—it’s about creating memorable guest experiences. That means friendly service and a warm, community-driven vibe.

“Another part of what makes Crush Taco unique is our service,” Assi said. “You'll come in for the food, but you're going to return for the hospitality. Our team members will know you by name.”

That focus on experience extends to the menu’s evolution. Each month, Crush Taco rolls out a new taco feature and a rotating lineup of loaded fries—like this month’s Buffalo Chicken Fries, topped with housemade Buffalo sauce, jalapeno ranch, queso fresco and cilantro.

As Cinco de Mayo approaches, Crush Taco will celebrate with weekend-long margarita specials—$4.95 for a single and $9.95 for a jug of any flavor.

Visit the restaurant May 3-5 at 360 Stonebrook Parkway, Ste, 100, Frisco, or 11445 Dallas Parkway, Ste. 230, Frisco, to enjoy flavorful tacos, freshly refreshed patio spaces and renewed energy among the team.
