Originally founded 71 years ago as a five-bed facility, the hospital now serves a population of over 1 million residents across 20 cities. With 302 beds and more expansion on the way, the hospital’s mission is clear: deliver world-class care without the commute.
“We want to be that comprehensive, high-acuity hospital for our community,” hospital President Naman Mahajan said.
As a hospital with a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a Level III maternal designation, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Grapevine offers specialized care from early pregnancy through 6 months postpartum. New and expectant moms delivering at the hospital also have access to the Postpartum Care digital tool available through the MyBSWHealth app at no cost. Moms can communicate with a nurse care advocate, learn more about their recovery through educational content, understand when to escalate issues to their OB, and much more.
“Last year, we had several babies who stayed with us over 100 days and we got them healthy, and sent them home,” Mahajan said. “The benefit to this is that mom and dad don't have to drive to downtown Dallas, spend an hour commuting, an hour coming back and paying for parking. They can just come right here locally in their community, park in the parking lot, go right up stairs and spend the entire day with their loved one.”
In adult care, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Grapevine stands out as Northeast Tarrant County’s only Level II trauma center. Patients benefit from a full range of specialties—from neurosurgery to podiatry—all under one roof. Notably, the hospital was recently accredited as a Primary Heart Attack Center. Thanks to a streamlined “door-to-balloon” process, the team can restore blood flow to the heart within 42 minutes—placing the hospital in the top 5% nationally.

Through partnerships with more than 20 EMS agencies, the hospital also leverages real-time technology to accelerate care. When EMS is dispatched for a stroke or heart attack, critical data is sent ahead, allowing hospital teams to prepare before the patient arrives. In many cases, this enables patients to bypass the emergency room entirely. In these critical situations, every minute matters.
“The longer that the heart muscle or the brain muscle is deprived of oxygen, the more impairments a patient will have,” Mahajan said. “The quicker that we can get oxygen into the blood vessels into the heart or back up into the brain, the better the recovery for a patient and the more likelihood that any residual impacts they would have is minimized.”
To meet ongoing growth, the hospital has added 34 acute care beds in the past two years and continues to invest in technology, including robotic surgery systems and interventional radiology upgrades.
Beyond its clinical accomplishments, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Grapevine fosters a strong community connection. One example is its annual NICU reunion, where former patients and their families return to celebrate their journey.
“This last year we actually had a couple of 16 year olds at the reunion and our nurses still remember when they were little premature NICU babies and now they're growing, thriving young adults ready to make an impact into the world,” Mahajan said. “I don't think there's a better testament to that relationship of us truly being a community partner and being there for the worst times of the community but also for their happiest times as well.”
