As the season of Easter approaches, Houston's First Baptist Church—under the leadership of Senior Pastor Gregg Matte—prepares for a truly transformative experience. For Houston’s First Baptist Church, Easter is not just a holiday; it's the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the cornerstone of their faith.

“Easter is pivotal because had Jesus only died and not risen, our lives wouldn’t have been transformed,” Executive Pastor Dr. Stephen Trammell said. “The Resurrection is why we can experience new life, no matter our circumstances. The tomb is empty, so our lives don’t have to be.”

The celebrations begin April 17 with Broken for You, a special Maundy Thursday service. The Houston's First family will gather to remember Jesus' sacrifice and observe the Lord's Supper, reflecting on His last supper with His disciples before His crucifixion.

“It’s a somber time to reflect on our own sin and our need for a Savior, honoring His sacrificial death on the Cross,” Dr. Trammell said.

Easter at Houston’s First Baptist Church features 16 worship services across its four campuses. This includes The Loop campus, where a Saturday afternoon service will take place at 4p.m., as well as a Spanish service on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Easter worship times:
  • The Loop: April 19, 4 p.m.; April 20, 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Cypress: April 20, 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
  • Downtown: April 20, 9:30 and 11 a.m.
  • Sienna: April 19, 5 p.m.; April 20, 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
  • En Español: April 20, 11 a.m.
For those who may be unable to attend in person, the church offers a variety of online services, making it possible for anyone around the world to participate. And, right here in Houston, the Easter broadcast can be viewed on KPRC Channel 2 at 11 a.m. on April 20.

Beyond the services, the church aims to cultivate a sense of community.

“When you look at the Cross, there’s a vertical beam which represents our relationship with God, and a horizontal beam which represents our relationship with others,” Dr. Trammell said. “We want to help everyone come into a right relationship with God and to have a right relationship with others.”

For first-time guests, Houston’s First Baptist Church ensures a welcoming experience, with staff and volunteers ready to greet each guest warmly.

“We’ve been praying for your arrival,” Dr. Trammell said. “From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel at home.”

As Easter draws near, the message at Houston's First Baptist Church remains clear: Jesus' Resurrection offers hope, renewal and transformation for all.

“Easter is a reminder that God has built the ultimate love bridge to you, so that you can know Him personally and live with Him eternally,” Dr. Trammell said.
