Pearland Parks and Recreation enhances residents' quality of life through engaging events, recreational programs and well-maintained spaces such as community parks and the Delores Fenwick Nature Center. With a mission to connect the community through exceptional experiences, it creates opportunities for Pearland to gather in celebration and recreation.

In addition to its year-round recreational programming, Pearland Parks and Recreation hosts a variety of special events throughout the year. From the annual Celebration of Freedom on July 4 to the festive Hometown Christmas Festival, these events provide residents with memorable experiences that showcase the spirit of Pearland.

Spring Fest

One of the most anticipated annual events is Spring Fest, a full-day festival celebrating community, creativity and fun. This year, Spring Fest takes place April 5 at Independence Park, running from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. with a special 9:00 a.m. early opening for individuals with disabilities and their family.

Attendees can look forward to:
  • H-E-B Imagination Station
  • Live performances
  • Craft market
  • Inflatables
  • Petting zoo
  • Food trucks
  • Mechanical rides
  • Local business and nonprofit booths
"Spring Fest has something for everyone, giving attendees the chance to make it their own and get creative with the fun they’re having," special events coordinator Lindsey Taylor said.

A highlight of the festival is H-E-B’s Imagination Station, an award-winning interactive setup where children can engage in pretend grocery shopping, enhancing their social and cognitive skills.

In partnership with KHOU 11’s Turn the Page Book Drive, attendees who bring a children’s book donation will receive a $2 discount on a wristband, which grants access to premium attractions like inflatables and rides.

The event is free to attend, with select attractions, such as the inflatables and mechanical rides, requiring a wristband. Wristbands are available for an early bird sale at $10 until March 31, after which the price will increase to $12.

“General parking will be available across the street at Pearland High school,” Taylor said. “On-site parking is accessible for those who need handicapped parking.”

Other special events in Pearland

In addition to Spring Fest, Pearland Parks and Recreation hosts a variety of annual events designed to bring people together including:
  • Concerts in the Park, presented by H-E-B: Every Friday in May and June, from 7-9 p.m., a live band will perform a free concert at Southdown Park in May and Independence Park in June.
  • Celebration of Freedom, presented by Bayway Chevrolet: On July 4, from 6-10 p.m., there will be live performances on the H-E-B Entertainment Stage, kids’ activities and an 18 minute fireworks display, to celebrate Independence Day.
  • Juneteenth Freedom Celebration: Pearland’s fourth annual Juneteenth celebration on June 21, founded by Visionary Outreach, will honor the end of slavery in Texas and the conclusion of the Civil War, featuring live music and community festivities.

Growing to meet expanding needs

As Pearland grows, so does its Parks and Recreation Department, expanding events and programming to meet the needs of the community.

Partnerships with local businesses and organizations play a crucial role in making these events possible.

“We have so many creative minds in Pearland, and we love leveraging those talents through partnerships, sponsorships and vendor opportunities to enhance experiences,” Kelly Moody, special events and development manager said.

As Pearland Parks and Recreation continues to grow, they are working to become more inclusive by gathering ongoing feedback from the community. This feedback helps the department stay aware of the evolving needs of residents and allows them to better tailor their offerings.

Their adaptive recreation program offers social and recreational services to youth and adults with physical or developmental disabilities. It provides a supportive environment where individuals can explore new skills, build friendships and gain independence. Activities such as Miracle League, cooking, bowling and tennis ensure full participation for individuals with special needs.
