Shoo Loong Kan brings authentic Sichuan hot pot to Richardson

Shoo Loong Kan brings authentic Sichuan hot pot to Richardson

Sponsored by: Shoo Loong Kan

Established in 2014, Shoo Loong Kan originated in Sichuan, China, starting with just a handful of hot pot tables. In a short span of five years, the brand expanded rapidly, eventually opening its first international locations in 2017. By 2020, Shoo Loong Kan had reached an impressive milestone, with over 1,000 restaurants worldwide.

The Richardson location, at 400 N. Greenville Ave., opened in 2024 and marked the first Shoo Loong Kan restaurant in the Dallas area, bringing the bold flavors of Sichuan-style hot pot to the heart of North Texas.

Shoo Loong Kan is a unique blend of tradition and innovation, offering a vibrant atmosphere, authentic Chinese hot pot and a wide range of menu items to suit every taste.

Hot pot, a Chinese cooking style, revolves around a simmering pot of broth placed at the center of the table. Diners choose from an array of raw meats, seafood, vegetables and noodles, cooking them in the broth to create a personalized and flavorful meal.

At Shoo Loong Kan, the experience is not just about the food, but also the atmosphere of shared meals with family and friends.

“Hot pot is all about gathering,” front of house manager Eliana Ye said. “It’s a traditional experience where you get to enjoy different flavors together, cooking your ingredients in a single pot. It’s a great way to bond over a meal.”

For their hot pot offerings, Shoo Loong Kan provides a variety of flavorful broths to suit every palate. Their golden chicken soup, rich and creamy, is a crowd favorite, while the house special chili broth brings bold, spicy heat to the table. For those seeking a milder option, the tomato broth offers a smooth, soothing base that’s also perfect for vegetarians.

When it comes to ingredients, the restaurant offers over 32 different types of meat and seafood, including premium selections like A5 wagyu beef shoulder, premium lamb slices, slippery pork, fresh conch, fresh scallops and fish roe balls. For vegetable lovers, there’s no shortage of options, with around 30 varieties available, such as fresh bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms, and winter melon, ensuring that every hot pot is a personalized and delicious experience.

“We offer a variety of flavorful broths and fresh ingredients for hot pot, but we also have a wide selection of appetizers that perfectly complement the experience,” Ye said. “Whether you’re in the mood for something spicy, sweet or savory, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”

A few must-try appetizers include:
  • Crispy deep fried pork
  • Roasted pork feet
  • Chengdu tiger skin chicken claw
  • Brown sugar rice cakes
  • Crispy deep fried Chinese dough
  • Crispy deep fried bun
Shoo Loong Kan's atmosphere strikes a balance between modern and traditional. While the interior features sleek, contemporary design with hints of red and gold, it’s the warm, welcoming vibe that draws in diners of all ages.

For first-timers, navigating the hot pot experience can be a bit intimidating. However, the experienced staff at Shoo Loong Kan are always ready to guide you, answering any questions and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable meal.

“Our staff is always here to assist you,” Ye said. “They’ll guide you through everything, from choosing the perfect soup base to selecting ingredients that match your taste and dietary needs.”
