The changes have been well received by both residents and staff. For long-time residents of the building, the transformation is undeniable, with one resident, Dorothy McCreary, recalling her first meeting with Director of Sales Alec Moreno years ago. McCreary is now the resident ambassador.
“When new residents come to the community, they can meet with Dorothy and learn about the daily activities and lifestyle of the community,” Moreno said. “Dorothy really likes the activities here, as well as the Director of Resident Engagement and Memory Support, Savannah. She’s also really looking forward to the Victorian Tea Party later this month.”

The emphasis on fostering personal connections and enhancing daily life at The Legacy has resonated deeply with both residents and staff.
“Long-time residents, who have witnessed the community's ups and downs, are now experiencing a renewed sense of stability and optimism,” Moreno said. “The residents that are living in the community are excited about the changes that have been made. The associates are happy, the residents are happy and the residents’ family members are happy that we're here.”
Under Greenbrier’s leadership, The Legacy has introduced an all-inclusive rate model, which covers daily living assistance with such things as bathing and dressing, medication management, scheduled transportation and all utilities. This transparent pricing structure aims to eliminate financial surprises for families while ensuring that each resident’s needs are met with dignity and care.

A key element of The Legacy’s appeal is its commitment to a personalized, family-oriented approach. Moreno, who is known for building strong relationships with residents and their families, emphasized that every tour is tailored to the unique needs of potential residents. The goal is not to sell an apartment, but to ensure the community is the right fit for each individual.
“I encourage people to meet with me when considering whether or not to move in. I would love to guide them in the right direction. I would love to hear their story,” Moreno said. “Knowing more about these potential residents is so important. What did they do for a profession? What do they enjoy doing? What makes them get up in the morning? What makes them happy? That's what stands out about The Legacy. We’re here to cater to residents’ needs. We’re not trying to sell them something they might not need or benefit from.”
The Legacy’s level of care goes beyond basic service delivery; it extends into emotional support. Moreno noted that the process of moving a loved one can be an emotional experience for families. He takes the time to listen to their concerns and offer guidance through difficult decisions. This approach has earned the trust of families who find themselves navigating the complex world of senior care.

While the property’s physical appearance has improved with Greenbrier’s direction, Moreno stresses that the real transformation is in the community’s atmosphere. Whether it’s the variety of daily activities or the caring staff, including a registered nurse and a licensed practical nurse leading the wellness team, The Legacy offers a fresh approach to senior living.
“It’s a cruise ship on land,” Moreno said, referring to the engaging, secure and welcoming environment the team strives to maintain.
With a focus on safety, engagement and personalized care, The Legacy is redefining what it means to call a senior living community home.
“A lot of times, people come here from private homes. They haven't gotten out much because they don't drive anymore. They haven't engaged with other people because they were isolated. The Legacy is a communal environment,” Moreno said. “Residents walk together, they go to activities together, they’ll pick each other up at their apartments and go to the dining room or on an outing together. They really do look after each other.”

Moreno encourages families considering senior living to visit The Legacy at Oak Hill and witness the transformation. With revitalized leadership and a personalized approach, The Legacy offers not just a residence but a welcoming community where residents can feel at home.
