Ambitions Behavioral Health expands in McKinney to meet increasing need for ABA therapy

Ambitions Behavioral Health offers applied behavior analysis therapy to support children with autism and their families through an individualized, evidence-based approach.

The business opened its McKinney location at 3120 Hudson Crossing, Ste. B1, in July. ABA therapy is a well-established approach to improving communication, social and behavioral skills in individuals with autism.

Founder Billal Asghar opened the first Ambitions Behavioral Health location in California in 2017. When Medicaid began offering coverage for ABA therapy to Texas residents in 2022, Asghar decided to expand into Texas.

“I have some family ties to McKinney so I thought this is a good time to expand to be able to provide our service in Texas,” Asghar said. “It's definitely an underserved state. North Dallas is somewhat saturated, but there's still a huge need.”

Ambitions Behavioral Health prides itself on a tailored approach to therapy. Each child undergoes a comprehensive assessment to identify skill deficits and set measurable goals.

The ABA therapy curriculum focuses on:
  • Social skills, such as responding to others, playing games and making friends
  • Communication skills
  • Adaptive skills, such as feeding, toileting, dressing and chores
  • Leisure skills, such as playing alone and free time activities
  • Parent/Caregiver skills
“Once those skills are mastered or improved, that also results in reduction of behavioral concerns,” Asghar said. “A lot of times behavior issues are associated with communication, so there's a high emphasis on communication skills and it is recommended to start early.”

The team at Ambitions Behavioral Health encourages parents to actively participate in the ABA therapy process. The team maintains open communication with families and ensures the skills learned during sessions are practiced at home.

“Family input is important because they really know their child and can help determine what goals need to be worked on,” Asghar said.

Ambitions Behavioral Health stands out because of its experienced staff. Many team members have over a decade of experience in ABA, and all undergo rigorous training to meet the unique needs of each child. Safety and professionalism are priorities, with one-on-one supervision, thorough background checks and the latest training protocols in place. The clinic’s diversity also enhances its ability to connect with families from various cultural backgrounds.

“We have a team that's focusing on the results and making sure that there is a difference that's being made, even if it's incremental,” Asghar said. “We're tracking that difference and constantly learning and improving and are always available for our clients.”
