A passion for medicine
Dr. Paul Jones’ journey began as a combat lifesaver in a military tank battalion. After completing an internal medicine residency, he worked at Baylor Scott & White’s Sun City location. His coowner, Dr. Kristina Jones, grew up in a family of physicians, gaining early experience in free clinics and rural community work.
“I went to medical school because I didn’t know anything else. That’s all I wanted to do,” Dr. Kristina Jones said.
After earning her credentials in internal medicine and psychiatry, she focused on addressing the interconnectedness of mental and physical health. The couple’s shared vision for patient care led them to establish Optimum Wellbeing in October 2023.
“We opened this clinic because we wanted to do things better than anywhere else,” Dr. Kristina Jones said. “Quality is our purpose.”
Optimum Wellbeing’s unique approach
The practice distinguishes itself with its patient-centric approach. Unlike conventional clinics, where appointments are often hurried, Optimum Wellbeing prioritizes time, understanding and meaningful conversations with patients. Every new patient starts with a free 10-minute consultation.
“We usually talk about big picture items—who they are, who we are, what they need and how we operate,” Dr. Paul Jones said. “At the end of the 10 minutes, they can decide whether to move forward or not. We don’t want anyone to be dissatisfied with their experience.”
Optimum Wellbeing also integrates physical and mental health care seamlessly.
“Whether it’s obesity, insomnia or chronic pain, these often stem from chronic stress,” Dr. Paul Jones said.
Dr. Kristina Jones went on to highlight the psychological impact of negative medical experiences.
“A lot of patients have had bad experiences with physicians at other facilities, which affects their compliance with medical care,” she said. “They give up. They feel uncared for and accept subpar care. That’s a vicious cycle that triggers mental health problems.”
The couple believes breaking this cycle starts with prioritizing your health and finding providers who are best suited for you.
A practice without insurance constraints
Optimum Wellbeing operates as a private health care practice, choosing not to accept insurance. Instead, they focus on transparency and value. The clinic offers clear pricing: $199 for single-issue visits and $349 for complex consultations lasting an hour or more.
“The $349 covers everything related to the visit—EKG, in-house testing, lab results or prescribing medication refills. It’s all under one charge,” Dr. Paul Jones said.
Dr. Kristina Jones underscored the importance of educating patients about health care economics, particularly high-deductible insurance plans.
“I think our patients need more education and transparency from big medicine about how insurance companies and health care are set up,” she said. “I incorporate education into appointments and try to explain to patients how we can keep them financially well without extra expenditures.”
A vision for the future
By offering a thoughtful and refreshing alternative to corporate health care, Optimum Wellbeing is raising the standard for how medicine can be practiced.
“Fight for your health,” Dr. Kristina Jones said. “Look for a doctor who takes good care of you. Your health is worth it.”
