Bawarchi Indian Cuisine celebrates a decade of flavor, community in Richardson

Coowners Sri and Surya are marking 10 years of their restaurant Bawarchi Indian Cuisine with a 10-day celebration starting Dec. 20.

“As we celebrate our 10-year anniversary, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible community of Richardson,” Sri said. “Over the past decade, your unwavering support, loyalty, and love have made it possible for us to continue doing what we love—bringing delicious food and a warm atmosphere to this amazing town.”

Located at 1801 N. Greenville Ave., Ste. 250, Richardson, the restaurant will feature promotions or giveaways each day, culminating with a special event on Dec. 29. The event will include live music, food sampling and surprises for loyal patrons.

“We feel very fortunate to have been part of your lives and to have shared countless meals, laughs, and memories with you all,” Sri said. “Thank you for choosing us, for being part of our journey, and for allowing us to serve you. Here’s to many more years of great food, community and unforgettable moments.”

Sri and Surya, both alumni of University of Texas Dallas, opened Bawarchi to fill a culinary gap in Richardson. At the time, Sri said finding quality Indian food required a lengthy drive to Plano or Irving. They saw an opportunity to bring authentic Indian cuisine closer to home and opened the restaurant in 2014.

Bawarchi’s menu has largely remained consistent, with 70% of the dishes reflecting its original offerings. However, the restaurant has embraced innovation, introducing unique items like the biryani burrito, a fusion of Indian and Mexican flavors, and chicken tikka pasta, which blends Indian spices with Italian cuisine.

“We try to adapt to changing times and changing tastes and flavors, but at the same time, the long-time staples are still going to be there,” Sri said.

A few must-try menu items include:
  • Hyderabadi Dum Biryani
  • Butter chicken
  • Chicken tikka masala
  • Masala Dosa & Idli Combo
  • Chicken 555
  • Manchurian curry with a choice of gobi, paneer, chicken, fish or prawns
  • Paneer Biryani Combo
  • Spicy garlic curry with onions and bell peppers
  • Bawarchi special noodles and fried rice fusion

Beyond the food, Bawarchi Indian Cuisine has become a place where memories are made. From first dates to wedding catering, the restaurant has played a unique role in its customers’ lives. Sri said he’s had customers meet at the restaurant, fall in love and return for their wedding catering.

As Bawarchi looks to the future, plans for enhancing the restaurant’s space are already underway. Sri and Surya aim to expand and redesign the interior to offer an even better dining experience.

“We're looking forward to the future,” Sri said. “Me and my partner both are very passionate about this. Even though we have other things going on in our careers, this continues to be our passion. We are hoping that we can continue doing this.”

The restaurant’s blend of tradition and innovation ensures it will remain a beloved part of Richardson for years to come.
