The organization was founded in 1984 and serves ten counties: Comal, Guadalupe, Wilson, Travis, Kendall, Hays, Gonzales, Blanco, Bexar and Caldwell. Director of Development Heather Harrison said this drastic increase in need for services is because of the population growth in these areas and individuals’ willingness to accept the care Hope Hospice provides.
As the need for Hope Hospice’s services continue to increase, the organization is inviting the community to join its mission.
“We were born of the community 40 years ago when the founders of Hope Hospice experienced what hospice was like in another state, and then came back to New Braunfels and said, ‘We need that kind of amazing end-of-life care here for our family and our friends,’” Harrison said. “We've been able to grow over 40 years, to serve 10 surrounding counties and we're honored to do so. But as our area population grows, so does the need.”
In addition to hospice care, Hope Hospice provides:
- Palliative care for individuals living with a chronic illness
- End-of-life care to Veterans through its We Honor Veterans program
- Therapy with licensed professional counselors at the Hampel-Wuest Grief & Hope Center
- Grief support groups & family resilience programs
- Camp HavenHeart, a unique grief camp for children and teens
- 11th Hour volunteers who ensure no one involved at Hope Hospice dies alone
- A thrift shop, with proceeds going toward the community assistance program
One way community members can donate to Hope Hospice is through its Light Up a Life campaign.
This holiday tradition—now in its 39th year—combines festive celebration with meaningful purpose. A 65-foot Tree of Lights located in the New Braunfels MarketPlace is lit during a candle-lighting ceremony to honor loved ones who have died, and families can create ornaments in their memory for an Angel Tree. By donating to the campaign, individuals can help ensure the organization continues to meet the growing need for compassionate care in the community while also remembering loved ones who have died. Individuals can also donate to Hope Hospice online.
“It takes community support to deliver these critical services,” Harrison said.
