Thrive Medical’s expansion is not only about growing the brand but also about staying true to its core values: compassionate, patient-centered care that goes beyond the typical quick appointment.
Founded by internal medicine physician Dr. Brad Venghaus, Thrive Medical has quickly become a favorite in the North Austin area for its approach to primary care. Dr. Venghaus previously worked as a hospitalist before realizing that hospital care didn’t align with his passion for long-term relationships with patients.
“I loved working in the hospital, but it didn’t fit my personality. In the hospital, you treat people and hope they don’t come back. I prefer long-term relationships with patients, getting to know them over time, which is why I switched to primary care,” Dr. Venghaus said. “In 2018, I debated whether to join a larger group or start my own practice. I chose to open my own so I could focus on each patient, understand their version of health and happiness, and help them reach their goals.”
The decision to open new locations in Leander and Pflugerville stems from patient requests. Thrive Medical’s main office in North Austin had seen increasing numbers of patients coming from suburban areas like Leander, Liberty Hill and Pflugerville, often struggling with long drive times and traffic to get to their appointments.
Both Leander and Pflugerville are rapidly growing communities with a need for accessible primary care. The new locations will offer the same high standards of care that have made Thrive Medical so successful, serving over 21,000 patients in just five years.
The clinics will focus on providing comprehensive, preventative care, with an emphasis on personalized treatment plans for individuals. Dr. Venghaus has carefully chosen doctors who share his approach to patient care, including Dr. Antione Pham, who serves the Leander location, and Dr. Sumbal Khan, who leads the Pflugerville clinic.
Dr. Venghaus’ commitment to maintaining a high level of care at both new locations is evident in the doctors he has brought on board. Both Dr. Pham and Dr. Khan are passionate about long-term patient relationships and individualized care.
“It’s important that our patients feel like they’re getting the same level of care, no matter which location they visit,” Dr. Venghaus said. “I visit the new locations personally to ensure everything runs smoothly and to provide hands-on support. Our doctors are highly skilled, but we want to ensure that the Thrive way of compassionate, personalized care continues at all our locations.”
The expansion also allows Thrive Medical to meet the changing needs of its patient population. In addition to standard primary care services, the new clinics will focus on preventative health and offer specialized care in areas such as weight loss.
The new locations will also offer in-office blood work, streamlining the process for patients.
"As we grow, we’re looking to expand our hours to include weekends and after-hours care, offering more flexibility and making it easier for our patients to access care when they need it," Dr. Venghaus said.
With two new locations now open and more on the horizon, Thrive Medical is poised to continue its mission of delivering accessible, compassionate and personalized care to patients throughout the Austin area.
