Baylor Scott & White Medical Center—Centennial has opened a new labor & delivery triage unit to provide specialized care for expectant mothers that require urgent evaluation and treatment for themselves and their unborn child.
Located adjacent to the labor & delivery unit, the new triage unit features three patient rooms equipped with advanced medical equipment. The medical center is located at 12505 Lebanon Road, Frisco.
“We are proud to offer this dedicated patient care area for our expectant mothers who are in need of immediate care,” said Paul Meggs, OB-GYN and Medical Director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Baylor Scott & White—Centennial. “Whether she is facing an emergency related to her pregnancy or to her general health, a pregnant woman has unique healthcare needs that differ from our general patient population. This new unit allows us to care for these patients in a caring environment tailored to their needs and give them closer access to the care teams who are specially trained to offer them compassion and quality care on what may be a very difficult day.”
Previously, pregnant women who required emergency care were often screened in the emergency department or directly admitted to the labor & delivery unit. The new triage unit offers a dedicated space tailored to the unique needs of these patients, providing them timely and compassionate care.
The space is designed to be calming and comforting, with soothing artwork and a focus on patient well-being. By having an OB-GYN provider more readily available, the triage unit aims to optimize patient flow and reduce wait times for women who can be discharged home.
As a designated Level III Maternal Center, families can find comfort knowing that physicians are available to provide advanced care to babies with urgent needs.
Special care is managed and performed by a combination of experienced neonatologists on the medical staff, neonatal nurse practitioners, registered nurses and respiratory therapists to give mothers and their children around-the-clock medical care in any circumstance.
The medical center has the distinction of being the first Level III Maternal Center in Frisco. The hospital’s dedication to patient safety and quality care has earned it high praise from U.S. News & World Report, which named it a high performing hospital for maternity care.
