Shafer Services Plus launched its Shafer Cool Kids program as a way to support San Antonio youth, and has since sponsored four groups, including Cub Scout Pack 1492.

The San Antonio-based plumbing and air conditioning company launched the initiative earlier this year. Through this program, the company combines monetary assistance with active community engagement.

“That's the next generation, whether they end up being doctors, nurses, plumbers, AC techs—whichever path they go, we just want to support our community and the future of the community,” CEO Chase Anderson said.

While Shafer Services has a long history of charitable giving through their Shafer Serves project, which focuses on donations of plumbing and HVAC services, Anderson said the company wanted to do something more hands-on and focused on our community’s youth.

“With Shafer Cool Kids, we wanted it to be very equal parts involvement and financial support,” he said. “Giving money is great, and that's helpful, but it also makes a difference when you have human beings out there cheering on and supporting the young generations in the community.”

The company set a goal to sponsor six groups, and so far, they’ve sponsored four, including Cub Scout Pack 1492. The group became involved after hearing about the program through a radio ad, leading the pack leader to submit a nomination.

“The leadership within that group was really strong, and they were very passionate, not only about their pack, but also the good that Cub Scouts in general do for young men and women in our community,” Anderson said.

The nomination came at the perfect time, as the pack was gearing up for their annual Pinewood Derby race and needed financial assistance for trophies, snacks, drinks and event facilities. Anderson said eight employees from the company attended the event, volunteering to help with tasks like handing out snacks and cheering on the participants.

Shafer Services Plus’ desire to give back to the community is in line with its mission: improving lives.

In addition to supporting Cub Scout Pack 1492, Shafer Cool Kids has supported local basketball teams and soccer clubs. As the year wraps up, Shafer is actively looking for two more youth organizations to sponsor.
