Unique to the gun range industry, a family-run establishment is reshaping the way firearms are approached, especially for newcomers. Celebrating its second anniversary this November, The Range combines innovative events, like a thrilling Move & Shoot Zombie Apocalypse Response Team shooting experience, with a strong commitment to customer service, safety and community.

The Zombie Move & Shoot event, a Halloween favorite, transforms the range into a dark, maze-like environment where participants navigate to glow-in-the-dark targets amid distractions like fog and noise.

“It’s a one-of-a-kind event in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex,” the founders, Thom and Julie Beyer, explained.

This year, every participant who does the Move & Shoot Zombie experience earns one raffle ticket for a chance to win a Canik Limited Edition Mete SF Apocalypse Edition firearm. Customers can opt for the double tap option to earn two tickets for the Canik raffle by adding a private lesson.

Thom has always been passionate about firearms and target shooting. After years of experience in firearms training and a vision to create a more welcoming atmosphere, the Beyers opened The Range in McKinney to foster a sense of community, and promote gun safety and education. Their goal was to create a family-friendly environment where anyone could learn about gun safety and how fun target shooting can be.

“People from all over the world have visited The Range in McKinney. It has been exciting welcoming people from the parts of the US and other countries that do not allow gun ownership come to The Range and learn how to shoot, and have fun doing just that,” Julie said. “We wanted to change the narrative of what gun ranges are like—many lack friendly staff, good customer service and aren’t kept clean. Here at The Range, we focus on providing a great customer experience in a safe and clean range. We are frequently complimented on just that.”

Their commitment to community extends to various backgrounds. For example, the business offers discounted rates to first responders and veterans to recognize their service. Similarly, memberships range from basic access to comprehensive packages that eliminate lane fees and include guest passes.

“Our memberships are designed so that the more often you shoot, the more you save,” Julie explained.

One of the standout features of the range is its advanced 300-degree simulator. Participants can engage in various scenarios, from home invasions to active shooter situations, allowing them to practice decision-making in high-stress environments.

“You can learn a lot about your shooting skills and how to react in real-life situations,” Julie emphasizes.

As The Range evolves, it continues to expand its offerings. Starting in November, any customer can show their membership card to a different range and shoot half price. If they opt to move their membership over to The Range, the initiation fee will be waived.

In a world where gun ownership can often be polarizing, this range stands out as a beacon of inclusivity, a clean safe environment, safety and education. With exciting events, a commitment to service and a focus on community building, The Range is set to continue thriving and expanding its impact in the years to come. As they look ahead, they’re eager to explore new initiatives that make shooting an enjoyable and enriching experience for all.
