“Everybody's got to go by that golden rule as far as treating others the way you want to be treated,” Sutton Roofing owner Cody Green said. “We like to take really good care of our guys that are putting on these roofs, whether it be taking them to lunch or bringing them food to the job site, keeping them flush with Gatorades, water and ice cream coolers.”
Alongside his crews, Green provides several roofing options for new constructions and roof replacements, including:
- Traditional asphalt shingles
- Metal roofing
- Tile roofing
- Thermoplastic polyolefin roofing
“[My job is to] get things done, keep things going and, focusing on the business as a whole, growing it and making it better,” Green said.
Severe weather and roofing
Green began his career in roofing after graduating from Texas State University, and over the years, he’s become intimately familiar with the high roofing repair costs associated with severe weather. Every year, hail storms cause significant damage to Texas homes and businesses. To help keep homes and structures protected, Sutton Roofing provides free roof inspections and leak detection.
Due to increasing costs from hail damage year over year, the industry is moving toward more impact-resistant materials, including Class 4 shingles, concrete tile and metal roofs. As Texans weigh the high costs of insurance policies with the high cost of roofing repairs, they’re becoming more aware of the long-term cost savings of selecting durable, more hail-resistant roofing materials.
“Recently, I’ve noticed that people are asking for Class 4 shingles,” Green said. “With the amount of storms we've had and the cost of insurance deductibles, it almost makes more sense to bite the bullet and spend the money up front, whether it be a Class 4 shingle or the best case scenario, a metal roof.”
Green explained that many insurance companies offer discounted policy premiums for homes with Class 4 shingles. In fact, the state of Texas established classes 1-4 for roofing materials’ impact resistance and dubbed Class 4 as the most durable class, which would therefore receive the highest premium credit. As word spreads, people are also learning about the most durable Class 4 roofing options, such as metal shingles, from their friends and neighbors.
