The library hosts programming and special events at both the Roy & Helen Hall Memorial Library in Downtown McKinney and the John & Judy Gay Library in west McKinney.
In addition to providing fun and education, these events create an opportunity to introduce the library’s services to individuals who might not have utilized the library before.
“The library really likes to see itself as the center of the community,” Librarian Jenna Norris said. “We really try to be a gathering space for everyone, but in terms of special events, we really see this as our best opportunity for us to connect with patrons in a new and unexpected way and to reach out to people who might not be the traditional library users.”
Here is a look ahead at what the McKinney Public Library has to offer this season:
Oct. 5: Fire Safety Day
October is the busiest month on the calendar, starting with Fire Safety Day on October 5. This event is a collaboration with the McKinney Fire Department and aligns with Fire Safety Week. It's designed to educate the community on how to stay safe and prevent fires, making it an informative day for attendees of all ages.

“We do all of these things to show that this isn't the library of the past,” Norris said. “We aren't a silent place that only offers books. There's so much more going on between events and programs and so many new, modern resources. It's all about building that sense of community and giving people things to do. It's just a great way to connect.”
