“The colder seasons, which might provide a break from our highest electric bills, [come with] seasonal pollinosis, [which] has many suffering from allergies, hay fever, asthma and other upper respiratory challenges,” said Clyde Tauriainen, Easco Air Conditioning & Heating vice president and founder.
The Conroe-based company has been in operation for over 40 years, and Tauriainen has a deep passion for comfort systems and the impact they can have on a person’s quality of life. Although his career began in construction, he knew he’d found his passion upon visiting his parents after they’d installed an electronic air cleaner for their heater.
“[I] always had some allergy issues myself, so when I was able to breathe cleaner air in my parents home, that interested me,” Tauriainen said. “[And I] had an amazing teacher at a vocational school. That passion was passed onto me—the eagerness and hunger to learn. There's so much in this industry—you could never learn it all, it's so dynamic.”
Since then, the Easco team has worked tirelessly to make a difference through its dedication to servicing residential and commercial air conditioning and heating systems in Conroe and the surrounding area. During this time of year, its top priority is to improve indoor air quality through a number of services, including UV technology and air purification treatments as well as humidity and ventilation controls to provide a positive pressure with fresh air through ventilating dehumidifiers.
The team also emphasizes the importance of unit efficiency and regular maintenance, and Tauriainen warns community members to do their research for all unit decisions, from replacing filters to planning system upgrades.
“Honestly, there's household names for filters that are not good for your air conditioning system,” Tauriainen said.
Poorly designed filters put additional stress on air conditioning and heating units, lowering their performance and shortening their lifespans. System flow and design are also critical since they impact energy efficiency, air quality and safety. As such, the team also stresses the importance of duct and unit cleanings as well as safety checks for furnaces and heat pumps, which are the fall counterpart of air conditioning inspections in the spring.
“[During inspections] we like to evaluate how the home currently is breathing,” he said. “Exhaust fans [in] today's kitchens can be rifling three tons of air conditioning out of the house. A clothes dryer removes sometimes 400 cubic feet per minute [of conditioned air] out of the house. So ventilation is a very important part, and the design of the [HVAC system] is imperative for a healthy, safe home.”
A close, values-driven company
Tauriainen is proud to work alongside such a talented and dedicated team of professionals, which includes his wife and sons, Joshua and Caleb. Through laughs, hard work and a shared commitment to serving customers, they imbue the company's culture and services with a strong set of values, a passion for life and a firm resolve to help others.
“I believe that when we go to work, it should be to make a difference, and with Christ at the center of my life, it has had an influence with customers, contractors and employees in the marketplace alike,” he said.
The company cultivates robust and supportive relationships within the team as well as with its multigenerational customer base and community. From the beginning, Easco also emphasized investing in continuing education opportunities and ongoing training for technicians and team members.
Roughly 10 years ago, the company’s training program was formalized through the establishment of what Easco affectionately call “Easco University,” an on-site, 1,200-square-foot training facility where his technicians receive weekly technical training, including "in house," manufacturer and distributor contributions. There, equipment is rotated and upgraded on a regular basis to keep pace with the industry’s evolving field training best practices. In addition, sons Caleb and Joshua are major contributors to the facility’s 2019 revamp and ongoing success.
“We have an ever-changing industry that needs up-to-date training,” Tauriainen said. “We've even had distributors come for training at our facility.”
Tauriainen’s impact extends far beyond his profession. He sincerely cares about people, not only in Houston but across the world. His philanthropic efforts cross oceans, and he’s an especially avid supporter of children in need.
It’s both a passion and a joy to serve the community, and Easco Air Conditioning & Heating is thrilled to share its current specials and rebates with customers, including:
- A 30% tax credit for solar and geothermal heat pumps
- Up to $2,500 in rebates for high-efficiency Armstrong central air conditioning equipment
