With its new location at 2021 Northpark Drive, Kingwood residents can now have Great American Cookies’ signature, customizable cookie cake at their birthday parties, graduations and other celebrations.

The chain started 47 years ago in Atlanta and has since become a household name, franchisee Jeremy Roy said.

“We are the original home of the cookie cake,” Roy said.

In addition to being the original, the business’s cookie cakes have a unique recipe. Great American Cookies also sells individual chocolate chip cookies, but employees use a separate batter in the cookie cakes to give them their special, distinctive flavor.

The cookie cakes can be customized with different base flavors, such as sugar, double fudge and chewy pecan. Customers can also choose personalized designs for the top of the cake. The store has over 50 sample designs on its website for birthdays, work occasions, teacher appreciation, graduations, baby showers, sports teams and more. Customers can customize one of the sample designs or work with the shop’s designer to come up with an original design.

“We do a lot of personalized cakes,” Roy said. “We’ve done whale sharks, Godzilla. ... We've had so many different requests for different cakes. We have a very good decorator who can handle pretty much anything.”

The majority of the designs the shop offers can be ready for pickup in 15 minutes or less.

The ability to customize the cookie cakes sets the business apart from other specialty dessert shops.

“You can go to other stores and they have a great product, but you can't get ‘happy birthday’ or ‘congratulations’ or or a personalized message with someone's name on it,” Roy said. “Even at the grocery store, I doubt you'd be able to get it within the same day if you order it that day. We do a good job on the product delivery, the quality, the decorating and the timeliness of it.”

The cakes come in four different sizes, ranging from a personal cake to a large pan-sized cake.

Great American Cookies in Kingwood offers a variety of fundraising opportunities for schools and organizations, helping to support causes close to home. The franchise recently did a sales event for the class of 2027 at Kingwood Park High School, Roy said. Whether it’s setting up massive, pan-sized cookie cakes for events like breast cancer awareness fundraisers or offering sales events where a portion of proceeds goes back to the community, the store is about more than just selling desserts—it’s about giving back.
