For nearly 50 years, The Carlson Law Firm has been advocating for individuals who have been harmed by the negligent acts of others. The firm has 19 locations nationwide and a team of nearly 50 lawyers who walk clients through every step of the legal process.

In a Q&A with Community Impact, former clients Bruce W. and Brenda H. talk about their experiences with The Carlson Firm and how the team supported them throughout challenges of their cases. Responses have been edited for length and clarity.

What made you decide to choose The Carlson Law Firm to handle your personal injury case?

Bruce W.: I knew someone who worked for The Carlson Law Firm. I also searched online, and Carlson's approach was drastically different from other personal injury firms. Carlson appeared far more professional.

Brenda H.: I found the firm on Google, and I researched reviews. They were very positive. The first call was impressive, and everyone was very friendly.

How did The Carlson Firm keep you informed about the progress of your case?

Bruce W.: [Paralegal] Heidi was my main point of contact. All one has to do is call. However, I didn't really need to call as I felt that I was informed each step of the way through treatment to final negotiations.

How did the firm support you throughout the case?

Bruce W.: I was kept informed and never had an issue knowing the process of getting fairly compensated for my injuries. When I needed advice, Heidi was there and able to guide me. The team was always a step ahead and able to guide me in the right direction in order to keep my case on track.

Brenda H.: I received help filling out forms and working through the final mediation process. They helped me with anxiety and settling the case.

What were the most challenging aspects of your case, and how did the law firm help you navigate them?

Bruce W.: [Law partner] Nathan Kennedy understood elements of my case that were not necessarily apparent to the average person. I found that insurance companies have well-rehearsed answers as to why one has injuries—answers that enable them to have an angle to not compensate those injured fairly. Nathan was well aware of that and approached the case from every angle in order to achieve just results.

Brenda H.: The mediation scared me the most. Andreéa [associate attorney] was so supportive and held my hand through it. The back and forth between us and the insurance company was the hardest part.

Did the resolution meet your expectations, and how did the firm prepare you for the possible outcomes?

Bruce W.: In my case, there were surgical recommendations and decisions needed to be made considering my long-term health. Those decisions needed to be balanced with financial reality and the risks of having a major surgery. There were many talks with Heidi about what would be the optimum outcome from both the health and financial perspective. More specifically, in my case, we had to decide if having a surgery was worth the risk. Or, would it be wiser to be compensated for my injury and consistently treat over my lifetime with therapy and being cautious. Heidi and Nathan gave thorough advice as we weighed this decision. We settled in mediation, and I was happy with the care my case was given along the way.

How important do you think it is to choose the right law firm for a personal injury case, and what should people look for?

Bruce W.: Someone should look for a law firm that displays that professionalism from their online image, your initial meetings and throughout the entire process. That word “process” is really important as you want a firm that knows the legal system as well as the medical system and has people like Heidi and Nathan that can implement the process needed to be compensated.

Is there anything else you would like to share about your experience?

Bruce W.: In my experience, Carlson takes care of their clients and actually really does care. I know that is the catch phrase—Carlson Cares—but it really is accurate. There was also never a time when Heidi or Nathan didn't have an answer for what was happening.

Brenda H.: I came to The Carlson Law Firm after I had gone to a nail salon with my mom to have some relaxing one-on-one time and things quickly took a turn for the worse. I left the nail salon with horrible burns to my foot. At the time of the incident, I was in hospice – like it would for anyone, this injury really scared me, and I didn’t plan on spending what I thought would be my final months like this. It hit my husband and I hard thinking that this fight for justice could go on well after I have passed. With hard work, dedication, and compassion – my attorney made it possible for me to see justice be done. I have since been able to get better accommodations for myself, focus more on my health, and have been truly blessed with recently being taken off hospice. I just want to say how much I respect and appreciate everything they did. Above and beyond.
