Within Bastrop ISD is a unique educational opportunity: Colorado River Collegiate Academy, an early college high school. Through a partnership between the district and Austin Community College, students can work simultaneously toward their high school diploma and an associate degree.

“It’s a truly unique experience for these students to attend their high school and college graduations just a few days apart from each other,” CRCA Counselor Tiffany Jimenez said.

One of CRCA’s standout features is its affordability. There is no cost to Bastrop ISD students when they follow one of the approved degree plans. The district covers tuition, books and transportation, ensuring that students can pursue their education without financial barriers. The only cost to families arises if a student fails or needs to retake a course, in which case a $150 fee is charged.

“There are so many benefits to our school,” Jimenez said. “It really is a hidden gem.”

The small class sizes and personalized support are a few other benefits of attending CRCA. Students receive individualized instruction and access to ACC professors, some of whom are also teachers at the CRCA campus. This gives students daily academic support from college professors.

Additionally, the campus is staffed with a College Access Specialist who helps students in the transitioning process from high school to college. They receive support every step of the way, from applying for FAFSA to college applications and dorm selections. This extra support provides a major benefit to first generation college students.

“I like attending CRCA because it offers me a unique opportunity to get ahead academically while still being involved in tennis,” current student Isabella Molina-Conrardy said. “The supportive environment and the chance to take college-level courses help students strive for their future goals. Being able to participate in tennis this year has been an amazing opportunity. I can develop my skills as a player and be part of a fantastic team.”

The academy’s partnership with ACC plays a crucial role in its curriculum. Freshmen focus on passing the college entrance exam, which paves the way for enrolling in ACC courses. During their sophomore year, students attend ACC in Elgin on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and stay on campus on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. As students advance, they spend more time at ACC, with seniors attending classes full-time from Monday to Thursday and returning to the CRCA campus for a half-day on Fridays.

Enroll at CRCA

For families interested in enrolling their students, the process is simple. Applicants must be registered to attend Bastrop ISD and then complete the CRCA application. The school prioritizes students from Bastrop and Cedar Creek middle schools, but if space allows, it accepts students from outside of the district. In the case of high demand, a lottery system is used for admission.
