Wanting to provide a true active living experience for residents initially led developer Iggy Grillo to start his development company Canterbury Development.

This year, Grillo opened his sixth Ivy Point community, Ivy Point Cinco Ranch. The 55-plus active adult community is located at 3030 Greenbusch Road, Katy, and is designed to stand out from other active living communities.

“We know that about 80% of our residents are retired,” Grillo said. “We know that these buildings and their apartment homes are being used in a way that's very different from traditional, conventional multifamily. We truly provide an active living experience. It's not just a moniker that we use; we know that our clubhouses get used extensively, and we provide amenity space for them to be able to spend their days doing different activities and doing the different things that they feel like they want to do any given day.”

What helps provide an active living experience for residents is the overflowing social activities calendar. Residents can enjoy a multitude of outings, including water aerobics and cooking classes that come at no extra cost.

There are six different floor plans for residents to choose from, including one- and two-bedroom options. The options allow a variety of residents to be able to move in, and they are able to decide if they need less space or more space for people to come visit.

Each floor plan comes with same luxury amenities and features, including:
  • 24-hour clubhouse access
  • 24-hour emergency maintenance
  • Accessible homes and amenities
  • Additional storage
  • Business center and library
  • 10-foot-tall ceilings with crown molding
  • First floors have fenced yards and faux wood floors
  • All-electric kitchen
  • Balcony or patio
  • Cable ready
All apartments are also pet-friendly, something that was important for Grillo to implement.

“The majority of our residents are single people, mostly women,” Grillo said. “We know that about 30 to 40% of our residents do have pets, and as a pet owner myself with a lot of pets, I understand the value and the importance of pets in people's lives. We welcome them. We see them as additional family members. They're very much a part of their life, and we would never want to consider telling somebody that they can't bring their loved pet into one of our properties.”

Outside of the complex, the vibrant community of Katy awaits residents with options for dining, shopping and entertainment that is easily accessible to residents.
