A lifelong love of the sport of shooting is what led Julie and Thom Beyer to opening The Range in McKinney in 2022, located at 415 Industrial Blvd. The Range in McKinney is a welcoming space for target shooters of all levels.

Many local ranges have the issue of being too loud and not being a pleasant experience for those who walked in. The Beyers wanted to make sure this wasn’t the case with The Range in McKinney, instead opting for a clean, open space where people can watch the action on televisions or browse the retail area and gun store.

“The whole idea was that we'd make a range in which everybody feels comfortable. Every day new customers walk into The Range and are really surprised about how nice it is, and ask for a tour, which we are happy to give them,” Julie said. “In fact, after being open for more than a year and a half, people still come in and tell us they did not know we were here. It is like we are McKinney’s best kept secret.”

The Range in McKinney is a 25,000-square-foot shooting sport facility with 18 climate-controlled and lead-filtered shooting lanes, classrooms with certified instructors teaching License to Carry and a varied curriculum of training courses and private lessons focused on the students ranging from beginner to advanced skill level.

The Range stresses the four rules of gun safety and have them posted in many areas to remind all members and guests:
  1. Always treat the gun as if it is loaded.
  2. Never point your gun at anything you are not willing to shoot.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
  4. Know what’s behind your target and beyond.
The Range in McKinney offers rental firearms which include pistols, revolvers, rifles and shotguns for all ages and skill levels. They even have an event planner for the perfect party. Need a place for your church safety team or group to qualify or train? Look no further. The Range in McKinney also offers free informational classes.

The Range in McKinney recently introduced Friday Night Lights which consists of different low-light themes that rotate weekly.

“Training is our focus, and allowing people to shoot in different light levels is a fun way to train,” Julie said. “It was so popular with our customers we expanded it from Fridays only to every day.”

Shooting in low light enables the use of flashlights, blacklight targets and going down range to practice move and shoot drills.

“Many people can stand and shoot, but have never tried move and shoot,” Thom said. “We have the training, instructors and ranges to teach this skill. It’s not only challenging, it’s really fun."
