The Austin-based homebuilder focuses on its philanthropic efforts in the community and through its employees.
When it comes to the philanthropic efforts of the business, Brohn Homes has embarked on an initiative called Brohn Does Good Days, in which the homebuilder has contributed over 2,700 employee hours to volunteer activities in 2023, and have already contributed over 1,100 employee hours in 2024.
Brohn Homes has always worked with non-profit organizations to give back in various ways over the years but wanted to find out what mattered most to their team members. To help spread more awareness, Brohn Homes surveyed their team members to see what causes resonated with them.
By listening to their team members, their committee was able to identify certain causes and nonprofits to begin working with and partnering with. From this spawned their commitment to giving back at least 1-2% of each team member's time to volunteering.
Brohn Homes made a commitment on Volunteer Time Off for their team members and developed consistent Brohn Does Good Days so that their team members could give back in various and meaningful ways, on a monthly basis.
Volunteer activities include:
- Building chicken coops and cleaning up the farm at Safe Austin Rescue Ranch
- Building tiny homes for Community First! Village
- Bringing Christmas gifts to Central Texas Children’s Home
- Serving meals to those in need at Central Texas Food Bank and Angel House Soup Kitchen
- Organized closets, painted rooms, and rebuilt wheelchair ramps at Sammy’s House
- Donating 12 acres of land to the city of Elgin to build a new elementary school
Additionally, Brohn Homes was recognized as a finalist at the Recognize Good Award Ceremony for Best Ethical Business Practices, an award chosen for a business’ dedication to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and sustainability initiatives.
“When it comes to people, we love people. We care about people,” Human Resources Director Lea Davis said. “If you were to talk to any person in our organization, you would hear that same messaging. Not everyone can afford a home, and that's OK, but if we can still make an impact in the community they live in, then maybe one day they'll be a Brohn homeowner.”
