The benefits of 62+ active adult living at ArborView Circle C Ranch

Active adult living ensures adults 62-plus will be surrounded by community and connection. At ArborView Circle C Ranch, residents in the 62-plus community can enjoy apartment living surrounded by peers of the same age and participate in a variety of enriching activities, classes and events.

Active adult living is not independent living, so meal plans and transportation are not provided. Instead, residents are free to explore different classes and activities, take trips to the surrounding area and build lasting friendships.

Lifestyle and engagement programming

Community Manager Laurie Caudle said ArborView has a robust lifestyle and engagement program that centers on parent company Sparrow Partners’ three pillars:
  • Sharpen your mind
  • Strengthen your body
  • Share your gifts
Caudle said residents are encouraged to engage with each pillar and often put on their own events, such as educational coffee or wine talks where connoisseurs can show their expertise.

ArborView also hosts a variety of activities, including weekly exercise classes such as yoga, water aerobics and strength training. Recently, ArborView staff hired a professional ballroom dancer to instruct classes for four weeks to prepare residents for an upcoming sock hop event. The community also offers educational sessions on topics such as how to spend money wisely in retirement and investing strategies.

Resident success story

Living in an active adult community means residents can learn from peers like Mark Carpenter. The ArborView resident shared his story of riding his bike from Texas to Idaho at 60 years old to visit his daughter and newborn grandchild.

Carpenter has ridden bikes his whole life and enjoyed the activity, and when he got the call that his grandchild had been born, he made the life-altering decision to bike there. Carpenter has given a talk about his experience twice at ArborView, and both events have been well-attended. In his talk, he shares about the people that helped him on his journey and the kindness from strangers that impacted him.

“Mark is really special and his message is that you’re never too old to pursue your passions,” Caudle said. “...I think that's what we're all about: ensuring our residents are happy and thriving.”

Benefits of living in an active adult community

Caudle said one of the biggest benefits of living in an active adult community is the sense of belonging that residents feel. By always being around other people, residents are able to share their gifts and be a part of something bigger than themselves.

In addition, constantly having activities, classes and events gives residents something to look forward to each day.

“When you're retired and you have something to look forward to every day, it keeps your mind sharp, your attitude great and it makes your life more robust,” Caudle said.

Because residents feel like they are part of their community, they want to be involved in the programming, and the more involved they are, the better connected they feel.

“I feel like the most important piece of it is the connections that you make in these communities,” Caudle said. “...If you're out there living a solitary life and don't really get out, I think you tend to stagnate. Whereas here, you have the connections. Our community members thrive because of the connections they make.”

Looking to move?

For those who are looking to move to an active adult community but aren’t sure what to choose, Caudle said she recommends picking a place that makes them feel welcome upon walking in.

“You want to make sure the people are kind and engaged,” Caudle said. “There may be some places that feel very cold.”

Caudle said one of the best things about Sparrow Partners is that people come first.

“If you’re knee-deep in reports and a resident walks in, you’re putting the reports away and listening to the resident,” Caudle said. “We put people first—it’s how we live our lives each day.”
