This year, R Bank is celebrating its 15-year anniversary. What’s the secret to a decade and a half of success and growth? R Bank President and CEO Steve Stapp said it’s the people who truly set the community bank apart.

“We have the best bankers and the best people in the business,” Stapp said. “Our people care about what they’re doing, and they care about our customers.”

While Stapp said he recognizes that every company operates differently, R Bank makes a concerted effort to personalize customers’ experiences and ensures that customers are able to talk to a real person.

“Our people take pride in what they do,” Stapp said. “If you call us, someone is going to personally talk to you. Some places, you call and get put on hold and moved around, but here, we have someone that personally communicates with people in every situation.”

When construction on the first R Bank location began in 2008, Stapp said there were cattle on the lot. Today, customers won’t find cattle, but they can find 10 R Bank locations throughout Texas. From Central Texas up to Fort Worth and down to Edna, customers throughout the state can find an R Bank near them, whether they live in an urban or rural area.

Reflecting on the journey of growth, Stapp said he feels proud to have been in business for 15 years.

“When we first started, we didn’t have any deposits, loans or customers, and we only had 12 employees,” Stapp said. “Now, we have over 150 employees, 10 locations, and we’re just a little bit over a billion dollars in total footings. We’ve been really fortunate.”

Throughout the years, R Bank has not grown alone. Stapp said the communities R Bank is part of have been supportive of the bank, and in turn, the bank supports the community by giving back, volunteering with local nonprofits, and attending YMCA and city chamber events.

“We are a community bank, and we know the communities we’re in are the reason that we're successful,” Stapp said. “We make a very strong effort to give back to and support the communities that we're in.”

When R Bank’s investor group came together 15 years ago, they wanted to create a bank they’d be happy doing business with. Now, the same investors are R Bank’s board of directors, and they’ve succeeded in their mission.

“We’re in the best market you can be in, and we started in the right place at the right time,” Stapp said.
