Houston’s First Baptist Church expands Sienna Campus to meet community needs

To help accommodate the growing population of Missouri City, Houston’s First Baptist Church is undergoing an expansion to its Sienna Campus.

Founded in 1841, the church has a long history of loving and serving the city of Houston and now has four campuses.

Church locations:
  • The Loop: 7401 Katy Freeway, Houston
  • Cypress: 11011 Mason Road, Cypress
  • Downtown: 1730 Jefferson St., Houston
  • Sienna: 4309 Sienna Pkwy., Missouri City
“Sienna is one of the fastest growing master-planned communities in America,” said Campus Pastor Malcolm Marshall. “There are lots of new homes being built and people moving in. Because the community is expanding, the church was expanding, and we ended up having to add an additional service because no church wants to turn people away. But that was a reality we were being faced with.”

In order to match this growth and continue to welcome new people to the church, more space became a necessity. The expansion will triple the amount of space the campus currently has. Instead of seating up to 200 people in the existing Worship Center, services will be able to accommodate up to 600 people.

The new facility is expected to be completed by the end of the summer. In addition to the expanded capacity in the Worship Center, the new space will also include a large space for children with multiple Bible study classrooms and rooms for worship and other activities, an outdoor green space for connecting with friends and neighbors and a large main foyer with dedicated event space.

Services offered:
  • In person: every Sunday at 8:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
  • Online: every Sunday at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • MidLink: special services offered every Wednesday evening during the school year
Once the new facility is complete, the church hopes to become a resource for Sienna and utilize the space to serve the community. At its core, Houston’s First Baptist Church wants to herald the gospel across the entire Houston area.

“Prayerful consideration preceded our church leadership’s decision to put down roots in the neighborhood,” Marshall said. “To be a neighborhood church means we really have to be in the neighborhood. We chose this location for the purpose of serving the community,” Marshall said. “It's been a joy to see people really rally around this.”
