Dr. Paul Gates and the American Association of Orthodontists recommend all children, get a check up with an orthodontist no later than age 7.
“This is optimal timing because that is the age when orthodontic problems become apparent,” Dr. Gates said. “When children come into my office, I look at the growth and development of the child and start planning to customize treatment in a way that will be most beneficial.”
Early intervention allows Dr. Gates to:
- guide jaw growth
- lower the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth
- correct harmful oral habits
- improve appearance and self-esteem
- guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position improving the way the lips meet.
Dr. Gates can also determine whether a child’s bite is right by looking for the following:
- early or late loss of baby teeth
- difficulty chewing or biting
- breathing through the mouth
- evidence of thumb sucking
- crowded or misplaced teeth
- unbalanced facial appearance
Round Rock Orthodontics has giveaways and other special events to make younger patients feel welcome at the office.
“When a child comes into our office at 7, their orthodontic experience is a lot better and they know what to expect,” Dr.Gates said.
Besides metal and clear braces, Round Rock Orthodontics also offers Invisalign clear aligners for children and adults, early intervention treatment for children, and utilizes advanced diagnostic technologies and next generation appliances.
Dr. Gates said it’s rewarding to give back to the community his children grew up in.
“The thing I love about being an orthodontist is I get to really know people,” Dr. Gates said. “I’ve seen a lot of patients over a number of years. I’ve seen kids grow up. Now I’ve been here long enough to start treating the second generation which is fun, and it’s a coordinated effort between our other dental colleagues, the patient and myself.”
