The best of both worlds: Master-planned community The Colony in Bastrop offers big city convenience, small town charm

When looking for the perfect place to call home, location is one of the most important factors to consider, as it determines job opportunities, lifestyle options and social relationships. Nestled between Austin and Bastrop, master-planned community The Colony gives residents access to employment, entertainment and a close-knit community.

“Choosing to live in The Colony is choosing to live in the best of both worlds. It’s the people,

the community. Hospitality and community like no other,” said Rick Neff, Senior

Vice President of Hunt Communities which developed The Colony.

With its close proximity to Bastrop, residents of The Colony have walkability to shops, bistros, cafes and the vintage architecture of downtown. At the same time, the community is minutes away from the Airport and East Austin where individuals can find vibrant, big city energy and hip foodie hangouts.

The site plan offers an original, gated section of the community which offers amenities including a high-end amenity center, Junior Olympic swimming pool and large play structures. Homes in The Colony begin in the $300,000s and range up to a million dollars. The community is also growing to include new and future phases for more residents.

Throughout The Colony, residents will find special amenities with a variety of activities for residents to enjoy.

Last summer, The Colony opened Lakehouse Park, a park that includes a pump track for bikes, a playground, life-size chess and a pickle ball court. All residents are able to access Lakehouse Park and can enjoy playing disc golf on the nine-hole disc golf course, which winds through the piney oak trees Bastrop is known for.

Right now, The Colony is developing the Lakehouse Amenity Center which will feature:
  • a third pool
  • an amphitheater to host concerts
  • kayaking and paddle boarding opportunities on the lake
The community also has a plan for another amenity center called the Treehouse, which is slated to break ground later this year.

To the east of FM 969 is a brand-new amenity center, The Overlook. This complex offers beautiful views of natural landscape, including live oak trees and the Colorado River. With its own private gated pool, residents can take a dip, or do something more high energy like workout in the fitness center.

Serving residents both east and west of FM 969 is Prairie Vista, an amenity center complex featuring a state-of-the-art play structure that will provide endless hours of challenging entertainment for children. For the adults, there is picnic seating where individuals can rest and relax.

One of the most popular amenities in The Colony is the extensive trail system, which features a mix of paved and unpaved trails throughout the community that connect neighborhoods and neighbors. Year-round, residents can walk, run or bike along the trail, and The Colony encourages individuals to watch for deer and birds along the paths.

For families with children, education is easily accessible at Colony Oaks Elementary School, which just opened within The Colony.
